Corporate Social responsibility
As a green conscious company we utilize recycled products such as fly ash from coal burning plants and slag from steel mills that would otherwise be placed in landfills. We use ASTM standards for recycling waste concrete and left-over fresh concrete. We recycle asphalt to reduce the consumption of oil and mining aggregate in an effort to mitigate the carbon intensity of our asphalt products.
Mission – To minimize the impact to the environment when mining and extracting natural resources and producing derivative products like processed construction aggregate, ready mix concrete and asphalt.
Vision – To reduce our carbon footprint by operating with a heighten environmental awareness by recycling concrete and asphalt materials and reducing the use of fossil fuels in our operations through efficient and enhanced resource management.
Values – To reuse and recycle wherever possible to minimize natural resource extractions while actively reclaiming non-hazardous waste within our industry in effort to reduce the use of landfills and our energy consumption.
Sterling Solar
Century Aggregates operates a 6 acre 1.1 MW solar farm adjoining its quarry in Sterling, MA. The solar farm contains 4059 solar panels producing 1.3MM kWh of energy per year. This energy is sold to the Sterling Municipal Light District (SMLD), which in turn serves the Sterling community, including our Sterling quarry, with affordable carbon free electric power. With this much power being generated by our solar farm, we are able to eliminate annually 375 metric tons of CO2 from entering the environment by displacing traditional hydrocarbon-based power generation.
